Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement report they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report initial examinations suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; officials are not yet informed of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior representative said the attack made him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
